recap your decade cover

Did you recap your decade? If not, do it!

You have to make sure you recap your decade!

Below is my attempt to recap my decade. If you haven’t done this yourself, make sure you do it – it’ll be fun to look back on later.

  • 2010 – Finished up a basketball season in Italy! Overall it was a great experience. I have nothing but great things to say about the actual team, but the coach… This dude yelled at me on national tv that he wants to murder me. LOL How he got away with that is beyond me but it’s funny as hell when looking back.
  • 2011 – This is the year I screwed myself over big time: I switched agents. Looking back, this was probably the worst decision I could have done in my basketball career. I don’t want to recap my decade, list unfavorable decisions I made, without sharing some additional context… so here I go: I was impatient and the wrong person got in my ear. In hindsight this decision was the beginning of the end. Makes me a little angry to think about actually.
  • 2012 – After a forced basketball season in Czechia, I made the decision to hang up my jersey. It was hard, but necessary.
    • The challenge for me next was to find something to do (aka a job) that would fill the void I experienced without basketball. My identity was so tied to basketball that I had no clue who I was without it.
    • I packed up my life in Sweden and moved to NYC in October of 2012. in november same year I began my journey in the world of digital (thank you Mike!!)
  • 2013 – The world of digital totally consumed me. I loved every bit of it, and I became really good at it. This year I won a competition that was held by Google for SMBs!
  • 2014 – I joined the Yellow Pages in the spring of this year. Oh what a journey I was in for. Little did I know that this place would not only help me grow as a professional (and expose me to big business in America), but I would also make some great friends. It really is the people that matters and I don’t regret that I stayed here for nearly 4 years! I was trying to leave multiple times but in the end of the day, I didn’t see the grass being greener on the other side so I stayed!
  • 2015 – The year I fu*ked myself over so many times without even knowing it. Companies such as Microsoft, Pandora, CNN, Conversant, ESPN etc all reached out to me asking if I would be interested to interview but I declined all of them. This was WITHOUT me even applying for a job to these places.
  • 2016 – This was a fantastic year professionally because I was promoted twice! Yes, I was working hard and actually performed, BUT I had a tremendous team behind me, who gave me nothing but support and guidance!
  • 2017 – Mid year was the start of the shit show – the Yellow Pages was acquired by Dex Media and they ended up closing the NYC office in the end of that year. I didn’t know what to do so ended up signing up for grad school and then took some well deserved time off to relax – I spent Christmas and New Years in Sweden.
  • 2018 – The shit show continued… Coming back from Sweden I was refreshed and felt ready to take on NYC. For some reason I declined an interview with Google (can someone please load a gun and shoot me now please?). I ended up joining Observer Media, formerly known as The New York Observer. I didn’t have the greatest experience there but it was a job. Fast forward to the fall, grad school was starting. The program I had applied and been accepted to was a Master’s Degree in Decision Support and Risk Analysis within the school of Computer and System Sciences. Kill me now! Again, I didn’t know what I was in for but I jumped right in and tried to make the best out of the situation. Truth be told, it was very difficult combining a full time job with full time studies. Very difficult, but I’m glad I did it. Not only did I prove to myself that I can do anything I put my mind to (I low key already knew this about myself), but by starting this journey I was taking active steps towards accomplishing one of my life time goals: to get a masters degree.
  • 2019 – This year was filled with accomplishments!
    • I became an American Citizen!
    • I graduated Stockholm University with a Master’s Degree in Computer and System Sciences!
    • Noel and I did a 3 week road trip in Europe visiting 10 Countries!

There it is – my 2020 recap – now it’s your time to recap your decade!

There is no way I can make goals for the [entire] next decade, BUT I do have some new year’s resolutions for 2020. If you don’t have anything else to read, check out my 2020 new year’s resolutions here!
