The Interview Series with inspiring women continues here…
Long, greasy blond hair combed back, cut off t-shirts with no bra, deeper than deep voice and a burning cigarette in the corner of her mouth. Name’s Tammy and we absolutely LOVE her! If you haven’t heard of her yet, consider yourself lucky that you’re reading this article today!
The person behind Trailer Trash Tammy is a beautiful woman named Chelcie Lynn. She’s an actress who’s been seen in Dog Eat Dog (2016), Tangerine (2015) and The Hambone Group (2016). I was fortunate to have the opportunity to ask her a few questions, what her story is and how social media has helped her build her brand as a comedian. Here it goes…
Ever heard of Vine? It’s a platform similar to Snapchat. On this platform, you’re able to create “Vines” = short looping videos. These videos have inspired, entertained, and given rise to a creative community since 2013. From break-out comedians to musicians to fandom edits and sports, Vine creators have shaped pop culture.
This is the platform where it all started for Chelcie aka “Trailer Trash Tammy”. Vine had just came out and she had a total of 3 followers. She was wearing a Majestic Reba shirt and found herself making a random video in a redneck character. Chelcie personally thought the video was hilarious, plus it performed well in terms of views and engagement so she figured she’d make it a thing. “Tammy” was born!
We all can agree that in today’s society, social media is an important tool if you want to reach the masses. Social media an industry that continues to grow each year… More people join various social media platforms which in essence mean that there are more people each day who are ready and willing to consume your content.
“It’s given me a platform that i would never have otherwise. Even if i do well in standup, and tv/film – social media will always be the foundation for my creative side”
When asked about her social media plan, and how she decides on which content to put out, Chelcie is as transparent as one can be: “I don’t have a plan”. She continues: “If i think it’s funny (content), and i think my followers will enjoy it then i’ll post it”. Simple and to the point. Chelcie has collaborated with a lot of people who are the opposite of her; very picky with what they put up or how the editing is done etc. She’s not that way at all.
I love to see women do well – especially if they are down to earth like Chelcie Lynn! I asked her what the best advice is that she received and why – this is what she said:
“Be yourself and don’t worry about what other people think. Both of those things are so important for your happiness. I wouldn’t be able to do what i do if i didn’t follow those two things to the core”
If she was to give any advice to other women, Chelcie is preaching what she lives “Girl, say what you want to say. Do what you want to do. Wear that bathing suit because you look great!”
