Check out my post about my first two weeks on the new job!
New job update – So many emotions these two weeks but I am happy that I made it through without slapping a bitch!
The highlight of week 3
I received a request for a proposal on Monday. That’s the earliest I’ve ever received a proposal at a new job! Congratulations to me 🤣🤪
The process
Because I am new at this company i felt the need to ask my manager what the process was after an RFP has been received. He told me that we’d get a meeting together with a few different departments: editorial, product, and design. Sounds pretty meaty!
The meeting
I went over the brief I had received from the prospect. Simple and to the point. I have a lot of experience working on this so I felt confident that I was extracting the key pieces.
The meeting was ok – good way to brainstorm ideas and also a good way for me to hear how others think, strategy wise.
What baffled me was the fact that I felt completely ignored, as if my opinion didn’t matter. That made me angry. I continued trying to make my voice heard but it was hard – especially when two of the people in the room wanted to play “mean girls”. Are we back in high school?!
The meeting ended with a few action items and while I was annoyed with the mean girls, I felt that we were one step closer in getting a proposal together.
Later that day…
A couple of hours after the first meeting I had another meeting that pertained to sales material that I might need. The participants of that meeting were pretty much the same group. Great 👀
The outcome of that meeting was negative. I didn’t feel good about it at all. Once again, the mean girls were at it again. This time making faces when I was as speaking. That, my friends, I cannot tolerate. However I decided to hold my tongue… “because I’m new”…
Truth be told, I was not only annoyed after that meeting. I was upset. With myself.
It really bothered me that I didn’t stand up for myself so the next day I made the decision to give back the same shitty attitude I was given. Sorta. But not. I’m not naturally an ass hole so I don’t treat people how these chicks treats me. What I simply did was to be very straight to the point…
Week 4 started off ok
I didn’t have time to think about last week… there was just so much to do. On Monday I was in meetings all dayyy! Hate that. Not even client meetings, just pointless internal meetings that could easily have been emails 🙄
On Tuesday I was, again, in meetings… however the afternoon was more fun because we took clients to a Yankee game! We actually had a suite so that was pretty neat! Never been in a suit before so I guess it’s just like the saying goes: there is a first time for everything!
Performance review – mid year
Week 4 ended with me completing a mid year review form. As you know, i’ve only been on the job for 4 weeks (3 weeks and 4 days), so why would i complete a mid year review form… well i don’t know the answer to that either. Apparently they wanted me to share what my goals are and what i look to accomplish over the next 6 months. They also wanted me to share what my career goals for this role at this company are. I tried to be as transparent as possible. I shared that i want more weight to my title. My title is pretty dope at this time in my career, but i want it to mean more. As soon as i submitted my review, i KNOW that my manager looked at my answers right away because he scheduled a follow up meeting that’ll take place after July 4th. I’ll keep you all updated on that!
