too ambitious
I was once told that I am too ambitious.
A few years back I was interviewing for a new job and the last step in the process would be to speak with the hiring manager – the person i would be reporting to should i have accepted the job offer.
The interview was going really well. She asked me where i see myself in a few years. I told her what my ambitions were, all very realistic goals (by the way, i hate the world “realistic” because it forces people to stop aiming high). The hiring managers response was that she thought that i was a bit too ambitious.
I was very excited about this job because it was with a reputable company who was doing big things in its industry! However the second the hiring manager, who was a woman, said that i was “too ambitious”, my excitement went out the window and i decided then and there that i don’t want t work for this lady.
The next day i received the offer letter. It was a Friday. I had until Monday to let the company know whether i would accept their offer or not. The money was great, the benefits superb, and perks awesome. But…
I didn’t accept the offer.
The HR person called me and asked me why. As transparent as i can be, i told him that i cannot report to an individual who thinks i’m too ambitious.
I am AMBITIOUS; MOTIVATED; HARD-WORKING, RELENTLESS. I want to achieve great things and break through that glass ceiling.
