First two weeks at my new job

Two weeks down and I’m so EXHAUSTED! I’ll break down my experience in a few different sections so I don’t jump all over the place…

Arriving first day

For anyone who lives in New York City and take the subway to get to work knows that it can be a pain in the a$$! Some trains aren’t reliable at all. I had done some research on which train I needed to take in order to get to work in the smoothest possible way. I was in luck! The local train just a block away from where I live actually stops right outside the building of my new job! Woohoo! Public transportation this day however was not that great. Unfortunately there were some tragic events that had taken place causing extreme delays on my line. Apparently someone had committed suicide. So tragic!

When I finally arrived at the office, I was greeted by the president – the person I will be reporting to. He showed me my workspace and introduced me to pretty much everyone there. Great! Even though I didn’t do much of REAL actual work my first day, I was completely exhausted by the time I got home!

Getting the administrative stuff out of the way!

All administrative stuff wasn’t handled the first day… we saved that for day two! I met with a super nice lady who had prepped all the paper work. We went over each document and then I signed. I hope to be set up in the system soon so i can go ahead and make whatever benefit selections I want.

Town hall meeting

The second day was not only filled with paper work, there was also a town hall! But WHO in the world has a town hall meeting at 4:30 in the afternoon?!?! That’s just insane! Anyway, I was out of there by 7:30pm… in bed by 9!

End of first week

Now I’m finally settled in, administrative stuff (almost) out of the way, I have my target list and I am starting to do some outreach to potential clients. I wasn’t expecting to get much done but I feel sort of proud of myself for even thinking the thought of reaching out to clients already… believe it or not, I was actually told by one of the prospects that they’ll request a proposal from me by the end of June! That’s AWESOME!

I am actually excited about this opportunity. I know that this will be a very very very tough sell but at the same time I’m very happy in that the people there are great (seems to be at least). If I compare the first day at this job to the first day at the job I left after a very short period of time, this job is 100 times better!

So with that said — of to week two!

Week 2 summary

I spent the entire week just prospecting, doing everything in my power to get some traction in my new job. I don’t know if it’s my own insecurities but i have this feeling that i’m being judged by every single individual at that place (with the exception of a wonderful Brazilian woman who is my ace at that place!). I feel the pressure but i hope things’ll get better!
